ABSTRACT

Attentive to this scenario, the objective of this research was to understand how subjects, groups, and institutions attribute meanings to the work experience in so-called startups. In the theoretical part, the social and economic conditions that enabled the emergence and dissemination of startups are analyzed in a critical perspective. The empirical part presents entrepreneurs reporting the general context of action in startups. At the end of this article, it is concluded that there is a capitalistic instrumentalization of specific subjective components that are selected and put into circulation to strengthen the financed capitalist production.(AU)

ABSTRACT

This study proposes to analyze the relations and the processes of subjectivation of babassu coconut-breaker women arising from developmental policy interventions in their territories of life and reverberations in the Babassu Coconut-breaker Interstate Movement (MIQCB). From the ethical-aesthetic-political perspective of Cartography, we followed the narratives of the life stories of 24 women, their daily activities and promoted events by MIQCB, we also analyzed the policy documents. We understand that while these policies of rural development contribute to improve the living conditions, in material and symbolic terms, they also produce resonances related to the "self-entrepreneur" mode of subjectivation, which has been handling their ways of living, producing, and relating to themselves and others in the neoliberal capitalist logic. Resistance to neoliberal captures is also present as they expand the collective mobilizations of the movement itself, articulating with others, in the production of a "common."(AU)

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to test an explanatory theoretical model about the social representations about Brazilian social-political scenario in 2017, based on the following relations: representations were directly influenced by the trust in institutions, and this trust, determined by ideological sympathies. A sample of 164 college students - whose average age was 24 years - answered interval scales. We performed structural equation modeling to test the proposed model. The results indicated: the suitability of the model; two groups of variables presenting positive relations in the in-group comparison and negative relations in the comparisons between groups. The first group showed the variables: Leftist ideas-forces, trust in social movements, evaluation of Dilma's administration, and evaluation of Leftist policies; the second: Rightist ideas-forces, trust in control institutions, trust in the media, evaluation of Temer's administration, and evaluation of Leftist policies. In conclusion, the institutional trust and ideological sympathies anchored the social representations of the Brazilian scenery for the studied university population.(AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

This paper is a theoretical production of reflective character that focuses on the relationship between research and activism from the semiotic-cultural constructivism in psychology, based on the case of monodissident activism. The notion of monodissent was coined during bisexual activism to refer to an analytical tool of a political-community order that includes all people who are sexually and/or romantically attracted to more than one gender. Different conceptions of political-social activism in psychology are opposed: on the one hand, activism is understood from the militant's self-centeredness, linked to a network of exclusions, denials, gatekeeping, and psychological defenses regarding experience; on the other hand, there is a dialogical understanding of activism. Methodologically, the research proposal is based on the field of observant participation, understanding that the researcher is, first, in the condition of a participant in a certain sociocultural field, from which he starts to observe and reflect on phenomena that occur there. We take as an illustration the trajectory of the construction of the monodissident activism of the first author, bringing dialogical tensions to the analysis, discussed with other reflections on the subject. The set of dialogic tensions that emerged in this path was mapped and understood as a process of dialogic multiplication in the encounter of the researcher self with the activist self.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Abstract We studied how a Brazilian community responded to a disaster using social innovations (SI) developed based on social bricolage and brokerage with stakeholders. The paper seeks to explain these processes and their interrelation. The methodological approach was primarily inductive, using semi-structured and open-ended interviews, document analysis, and the residential experience of the senior author before, during, and after the disaster. Our results suggest that the disaster upset the social balance of the community in several ways and triggered waves of subsequent SI related to social bricolage and brokerage that faded somewhat over time. Originality and value of the paper derive both from the unique and neglected context of post-disaster recuperation in a developing country and from the application of advances in the conceptualization of brokerage and its relation to social bricolage and SI.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Interests and roles allow us to understand the way in which people are motivated to carry out the activities that fill their lives and to establish patterns of behavior; these elements make up daily life, they affect the retirement process and subsequent occupational performance. Objective: To characterize the interests and roles of early retirement workers at Universidad del Valle, San Fernando Campus, Cali, Colombia. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on 52 early retirement workers, to whom two instruments were applied: the modified List of Interests by Kielhofner and Neville (1983) and the List of Roles by Oakley, Kielhofner and Barris (1985). The data were analyzed using frequency distributions. Results: The activities proposed by the early retirement workers correlate with their interests and their interests with their participation and what they wish to have in the present and in the future. The roles are internalized, but there are differences in assigning values between men and women. Additionally, a decrease in the labor participation gap by sex is observed. Conclusion: To face the changes after retirement, it is necessary to adjustment the activities and transformations of the roles to be played by early retirees when they joint heir daily lives; thus they would have greater possibility of reacting with positive adaptive ways to their new reality(AU)

ABSTRACT

Objective: We assessed the level of community acceptance of COVID-19, identified and implemented strategies to demystifying stigma in a severely affected population in Tema. Design and Setting: We conducted a cross-sectional study to assess stigma among the Tema community, then identified and implemented interventions to demystify COVID-19 stigma. We interviewed positive cases, their contacts, contact tracers, case management team members, and community members who shared their first hand experiences and knowledge on the current pandemic. Intervention: Based on the information received, we came up with ways of reducing stigma and implemented them in their community. Main Outcome: Stigma demystified Results: Cases and contacts reported being avoided, discriminated against, insulted or had derogatory words used on them by family, friends, work colleagues or the community. Cases and their contacts stated that stigmatisation was fueled by the presence of COVID -19 branded vehicles and security officials at their homes or workplaces. Stakeholder engagement, education and extensive sensitisation of community members were implemented to reduce stigma. Conclusion: We observed deeply entrenched stigma to COVID - 19 positive patients and their contacts in the community. Health care response mechanisms such as the presence of security personnel with contact tracers and case managers and the use of COVID -19 branded vehicles fueled stigma. A multifaceted approach through the engagement of key stakeholders, training of health workers and extensive education and community sensitisation was essential in reducing stigma.

ABSTRACT

Abstract This report aims to present an experience on the development of youth protagonism of teenagers and young people who are in compliance with socio-educational measures in open environment, based on Thematic Workshops held at the Specialized Reference Center for Social Assistance (CREAS). For the development of the workshops, a role-playing game was built with the mission of revitalizing a sports court. Starting from a topic of interest and a game created from the concrete reality of young people, it was possible to perceive the leading role and involvement of young people, which fostered discussions about public services and how they could articulate themselves to change the reality of the sports court. In addition, it was possible to expand discussions on other rights, such as the right to sport and leisure. Thus, working with youth protagonism means reaffirming adolescents and young people as subjects of rights.

Abstract Introduction: Mexico is the country with the highest mortality due to ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI), and the IMSS has therefore developed the protocol of care for emergency departments called Código Infarto (Infarction Code). In this article, aspects of translational medicine are discussed with a bioethical and comprehensive perspective. Objective: To analyze the Código Infarto protocol from the perspective of translational bioethics. Method: A problem-centered approach was carried out through reflective equilibrium (or Rawls' method), as well as by applying the integral method for ethical discernment. Results: The protocol of care for emergency services Código Infarto is governed by evidence-based medicine and value-based medicine; it is guided by a principle of integrity that considers six dimensions of quality for the care of patients with STEMI. Conclusion: The protocol overcomes some adverse social determinants that affect STEMI medical care, reduces mortality and global economic disease burden, and develops medicine of excellence with high social reach.

ABSTRACT

Multiple disability (MD) is characterized by the presence of two or more deficiencies that are capable of influencing the development and functionality of the individuals who have it. Rehabilitation in these cases invariably involves physical therapy that can provide functional and social gains for children suffering from MD and their families. Objective: Analyze how the scientific literature addresses the perception of parents regarding the physical therapy treatment of children with multiple disability. Methods: A qualitative metasynthesis was performed through a systematic earch of qualitative studies published between 2013 and 2018 in the Scopus and PsycINFO databases. The data analysis consisted of three stages proposed: systematization of the first order concepts, which involve the identification of the concepts found in the original articles; the second order interpretation, process of comparison and interpretation of concepts that are repeated and, finally, the interpretative synthesis, which are a reinterpretation of second order concepts. Results: Eight studies were included and from them emerged five second order concepts that served as the basis for the elaboration of two interpretative syntheses: Parent's participation in the process of rehabilitation and Information and communication between parents and physiotherapists in the perception of physical improvements obtained with the treatment. Concluision: The studies pointed out that parents perceive the efficacy of physiotherapeutic treatment, however, some barriers have been identified that make it difficult to carry out an adequate intervention.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Collaborative stakeholder influence and open budget actions are important elements in governance in order to promote social development (Ansell and Gash, 2008). However, it is important to clarify how to measure these supposedly independent elements. The aim of the article is to identify ways to measure the influence of collaborative stakeholders and open budget actions. The methodological aspects focus on data collection through interviews and content analysis. The conclusion is that the number of civil society organizations and the presence of social councils and their operational components are relevant measures of collaborative stakeholder influence and open budget actions, respectively. In addition, this article highlights the relevance of integrating collaborative stakeholder influences with open budget actions. Finally, a research agenda is proposed.

ABSTRACT

Abstract: Objective: To design and analyze the efficacy of an Ecohealth competency-based course on the prevention and control of vector-borne-diseases for specific stakeholders. Materials and methods: Multiple stakeholders and sectors of the region were consulted to identify Ecohealth group-specific competencies using an adjusted analysis matrix. Eight courses based on the competencies were implemented to train EA tutors. The effectiveness of the course was evaluated through the use of paired- t-tests by intervention group. Results: Strategic, tactical, academia and community stakeholder groups and their competencies were identified. An overall gain of 43 percentage points (p<0.001) was observed in terms of competencies score in trained tutors, which further trained 1 033 people. Conclusion: The identification of the stakeholders and their competencies proved to be useful to guide training courses to significantly improve the initial competencies and create a critical mass to further advance the EA in the region.

ABSTRACT

Background: In Pakistan, there is high prevalence of mental health disorders, but mental health services to address these are not well developed. To provide effective mental health services, the World Health Organization emphasizes the integration of mental health into primary health care [PHC]. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the views of key stakeholders about integration of mental health into PHC in Karachi, Pakistan. Methods: A qualitative, exploratory study was conducted between June and September 2013 among 15 decision-making [from the Department of Health] and implementation-level stakeholders [mental health and public health professionals and primary care staff] from both the public and private sectors. Face-to-face, in-depth interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide. Data were collected until theoretical saturation was achieved and conventional content analysis was carried out. Results: Although there was general support among all the stakeholders for integration of mental health services within PHC, there were also a number of reservations. First was the perceived lack of support within the system in terms of resource allocation and acceptance from the community. Second was the lack of human resources in the field of mental health. In addition, resistance at the PHC level is likely as staff are already burdened with other preventive care services. Conclusions: The study suggests that strong political commitment, adequate human and financial resources, and strong advocacy are needed for the integration of mental health into PHC in Pakistan

ABSTRACT

Background: All government policies and programmes for food and nutrition security should include providing healthy food, as well as providing economic and social availability for all people. Aim: This study aimed to analyse the current situation of Iranian food and nutrition security and establish a road map towards 2021. Methods: The applied methods were situation analysis and a mixed qualitative–quantitative method. The conceptual method used for developing this national document encompassed three areas: sustainable food supply, food safety and nutrition. Results: The outcomes of the Iranian food and nutrition security system in the past three decades include development of management infrastructure and improvement in food and nutrition security status. However, analysis of current programmes showed that there were some overlapping, intertwining and parallel works in the responsibilities of related organizations in the field of supervision of food safety [from production to supply]. The national document produced as the outcome of this paper was communicated by the Iranian Ministry of Health in 2012 and has been running for 2 years. Selected ministries are responsible for implementation of 20 national programmes by the end of the 5th Economic, Social and Cultural Development Programme [2016–2011]. The consensus of stakeholders by the end of the 6th Development Programme [2021] is to put all of the provinces in a safe or very safe situation in terms of food and nutrition security. Conclusion: The most important challenge in establishing national documents is to make them operational. This aim was achieved by an intersectoral nutrition and food security working group, which produced a general memorandum of understanding with the main organizations, the media, universities and private sector
